Alka Seltzer PM is a sleep aid -sleeping pill containing the common ingredients: 325 mg aspirin and 38 mg diphenhydramine citrate. It is an antihistamine used most commonly to relieve symptoms of allergies and the common cold. These symptoms include itchy eyes/nose/throat, rash, watering eyes, coughing, runny nose and sneezing. It is also used to treat nausea, vomiting and dizziness caused by motion sickness.
Diphenhydramine works by blocking histamines that your body makes during allergic reactions. Its drying effects on symptoms such as watering eyes and runny nose are caused by blocking acetylcholine.
