Ambien CR (Zolpidem)

Sleeping Pill Review

Ambien CR (Zolpidem) is a prescription sleeping pill in the class of a Non-Benzodiazepine hypnotic sedative. These newer medications have a different chemical structure than benzodiazepines, and act more specifically on the area of the brain that is meant to be affected by the drug. This, they think, creates fewer side-effects and less risk of chemical dependency. They are still considered controlled substances though.

Ambien CR is taken by mouth, once daily before bedtime on an empty stomach. Dosage is based on medical condition, age, and response to this type of medication. The directions recommend not to take more than 10 milligrams per day and never take without doctor supervision.

Although unlikely, Ambien CR can cause temporary memory loss according to reports. To avoid this possible side-effect, they recommend you not take a dose unless you have time for at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Ambien may cause dependence if it has been used regularly for an extended period of time or if taken in high doses. Withdrawals may occur if you stop taking the drug. Other possible side-effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, nervousness, or shakiness. When you stop taking drug, it is recommended you do so over time with decreasing doses. ALWAYS consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

When taken for an extended period, Ambien CR may not work as well and may require higher doses to be as effective. Ambien CR should be taken as a last resort to solve your insomnia problems and sleep disorder.
