Estazolam

Sleeping Pill Review

Estazolam (ProSom) is the brand name for a prescription sleeping pill. It is in a class of sedative hypnotics called Benzodiazepines (Benzos). They are the oldest and original class of sleep aid medications that are still in use. Estazolam, along with Benzodiazepines as a group, are considered to have a higher risk of dependency than other insomnia sedative hypnotics such as Non-Benzodiazepines. Both are classified as controlled substances by the FDA, although more recent formulations of the drugs have attempted to lessen the numerous side-effects. All the drugs in this class, including Estazolam, are now less frequently prescribed than other drugs such as Ambien CR and Lunesta (non-benzodiazepines).

The most common side-effects of Estazolam include: dizziness, drowsiness, lack of physical/muscle cooridination, and light-headedness. Estazolam is a strong sedative so it should not be taken without a doctor's supervision.
