Flurazepam

Sleeping Pill Review

Flurazepam is the generic name for the presciption drug and sleeping pill Dalmane. It is in a class of sedative hypnotics called Benzodiazepines. They are the oldest class of sleep medications/drugs that are still commonly in use. Flurazepam, and Benzodiazepines as a group, are considered to have a higher risk of dependency and addiction than other insomnia sedative hypnotics such as Non-Benzodiazepines. Both are classified as controlled substances, although more current formulations of the drugs have attempted to lessen the side-effects. These drugs, including Flurazepam, are now less frequently prescribed than non-benzodiazepines such as Ambien CR and Lunesta.

Common side-effects of Flurazepam include: dizziness, drowsiness, lack of muscular coordination, and light-headedness. Alergic reactions and withdrawals are possible when the medication is no longer taken. This is serious stuff so medical supervision is essential.
