Sleeping Pill Review

ProSom (Estazolam) is the brand name for a prescription sleeping pill. It is in a class of sedative hypnotics called Benzodiazepines. They are the original class of sleep medications that are still commonly in use. Pro Som, and Benzodiazepines as a group, are considered to have a higher risk of dependency than other insomnia sedative hypnotics such as Non-Benzodiazepines.

Both classes are classified as controlled substances, although more recent formulations of the drugs have attempted to lessen the side-effects. These drugs, including ProSom, are now less frequently prescribed than other prescription sleep aids such as Ambien CR and Lunesta, which are non-benzodiazepines.

The most common side-effects of ProSom include: dizziness, drowsiness, lack of cooridination, and light-headedness. Chemically, ProSom is related to Valium and similar tranquilizers, so it is potentially addictive. It should not be taken as a long-term solution to insomnia. ProSom should not be taken without medical supervision.
