Rozerem (Ramelteon) is an oral sleeping pill drug that is used for treating insomnia and trouble falling asleep. Rozerem is used for sleep onset problems and is not as effective for problems of staying asleep. It acts by stimulating receptors for melatonin in the brain. Melatonin controls the circadian rhythms of the body which, controls the sleep and wake cycle. Rozerem is not addictive like many other prescription sleep aids, and it has not been labeled a controlled substance by the Food and Drug Administration. Rozerem does not cause withdrawals or rebound insomnia when it's use is stopped. It was approved for use by the FDA in 1995. Ask your doctor.
