Probably the best and most important cure for insomnia and sleep disorders is stress relief. Easier said, than done. All "natural" cures for insomnia and most of the items on our long list are meant to relieve stress. The problem is, most are quick fixes and gimmicks, and simply do not address the underlying reason you can't sleep.
So where do you go from these generalities. I guess you have to decrease stress the old-fashioned way: remove the stressful things from your life. Get a new job, retire, move, find a new love. If you're not willing to make fundamental lifestyle changes, then you're at the mercy of the effectiveness of short-term fixes. BUT, there are things you can do that are not completely radical, such as change in diet, adding rigorous daily exercise, or taking part in activities that are known to decrease stress like yoga, meditation and massage therapy.
In my opinion, stress is never worth it. If you have a job that makes it possible to have a beautiful house and cars, but stresses you out to the point you can't sleep, then I would make a change. Sleep is the world's greatest luxury. A homeless man who sleeps soundly is richer than the millionaire who tosses and turns, worrying.
